A Research of the Effects of Group Art Therapy Adopting Transactional Analysis on Improving ADHD Children's Attentional Deficit, Self-resilience, and School Adaptation

|
This study was to examine the effects of group art therapy based on transactional analysis on ADHD children's attention deficit hyperactivity, self-resilience and school adjustment. The subject of the research was 20 elementary school students diagnosed with ADHD M, K, O elementary schools located in K, Jeonbuk. Each experimental group and control group consisted of ten members and Group art therapy was applied on the experimental group 13 sessions over during seven-weeks. ADHD examination, self-resilience examination and school adjustment examination were used as research instruments. Pre-test and pose-test on the experimental group and the control group were conducted to verity the effects of the program. Independent sampling t-test was carried out based on the mean and standard deviation of each scale. This study results are as follows. First, group art therapy based on transactional analysis was significantly effective to relieve the symptom of ADHD children. Second, group art therapy based on transactional analysis was significantly effective in improving the total score of ADHD children's self- resilience and in emotion control and vigor of sub-variables. Third, group art therapy based on transactional analysis was significantly effective in peer relation of ADHD children's school adjustment. This research showed that group art therapy based on transactional analysis had a positive influence on alleviating ADHD children's problematic behavior, improvement of self-resilience and school adjustment. It has significance in terms of presenting practical basis for application in education and counseling fields.
